Afghanistan - Fiji Bilateral Relations
The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Republic of Fiji established formal diplomatic relations on 4 June 2010 in New York by HE Ambassador Zahir Tanin, Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations, and HE Ambassador Peter Thomson, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Fiji to the United Nations.
The Joint Communique expresses the willingness to promote mutual understanding and to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two States in the political, economic, social, humanitarian, cultural and scientific areas based upon the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter and the norms of international law.
Ambassador Tanin emphasized the commitment of the Government of Afghanistan to work with the Republic of Fiji bilaterally, at the United Nations, and in other international fora, and expressed his hope, that this step could be the beginning of fruitful and positive cooperation between the two nations.
The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Australia is accredited as non-resident Ambassador for Afghanistan to Fiji. His Excellency Mr Nasir Andisha was the first non-resident Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, who presented his credentials to His Excellency the President of the Republic of Fiji on 20 November 2012.
Fiji’s High Commissioner to India is accredited as non-resident Ambassador to Afghanistan.
On 30 May 2014, Fiji’s former High Commissioner to India, Yogesh Karan presented his credentials to the President of Afghanistan His Excellency Hamid Karzai as Fiji’s First Ambassador to Afghanistan.
On 24 April 2018 His Excellency Wahidullah Waissi presented his credentials as a non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to Major-General (Ret’d) His Excellency Jioji Konusi Konrote President of Republic of Fiji, at Borron House. HE Waissi is the second non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Fiji after Mr. Nasir Ahmad Andisha, who has had his presentation of credentials on 20 November 2012.
