AMBASSADOR'S MESSAGE
As I assume the role of Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to the Commonwealth of Australia since March 2017, I am deeply honored to contribute to the ongoing legacy of friendship between our two nations, while navigating the complexities of our contemporary world.
Our bilateral ties can be traced back to the mid-nineteenth century, when Afghan Cameleers traversed the Australian landscape, leaving an indelible mark on the development of the Outback, wool, and mining industries. Their enduring contributions are immortalized in the Ghan train, an emblem of their pivotal role.
Fast forward to 2019, a year of paramount significance as we celebrated the 50th anniversary of our diplomatic relations. This milestone not only reaffirmed our enduring partnership but also provided an occasion to reflect on our shared journey and envision a future of collaboration.
In a stunning display of cultural harmony, October 2019 witnessed the all-female Zohra Orchestra's mesmerizing performance at the Sydney Opera House. This unforgettable event encapsulated the resilience and determination of Afghan women, transcending borders and inspiring all who witnessed their talents. It symbolized a beacon of hope and progress, echoing through the corridors of time.
After the Taliban's forced takeover in August 2021, myself, my diplomats, and the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Canberra continue in fulfilling diplomatic responsibilities under the Vienna Convention of Diplomatic Relations of 1961, operating outside the realm of Taliban's influence. Amid this challenging juncture, the Embassy of Afghanistan and all diplomats stood strong, steadfastly representing the aspirations of the Afghan people beyond the grasp of the Taliban's influence.
Our commitment to democratic values, gender equality, and progress remains unshaken. The embassy, a steadfast bastion of hope, continues to foster the unbreakable ties between Afghans and Australians, advocating for shared values and forging a path forward, even as the geopolitical landscape evolves.
The Zohra Orchestra's echoes and the memory of our shared accomplishments serve as a testament to the resilience of our partnership. As we face the ebb and flow of international dynamics, we do so with the knowledge that the enduring connection between our people is fortified by our joint history, cultural exchanges, and unyielding determination to overcome challenges together.
I invite you to visit our social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube Channel and Flickr) to update you on our activities of the Afghan Embassy in Canberra.
