#AusAfghan50 Competition
Celebrating 50 years of Afghanistan-Australia Diplomatic Relations
To celebrate our anniversary of bilateral relations, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan invites eligible entrants to participate in our #AusAfghan50 Competition.
The embassy is seeking those with a close connection with Afghanistan and Australia* who are willing to showcase their work to the broader community. Eligible entrants may choose to submit visual art, essays or business plans they wish to enter the competition. The total prize pool is AUD 4,500.00 and is allocated based on the submission type and ranking by the judges. First, second, and third place, will be awarded for best visual art, essay, and business plan!
Entrants do not necessarily need to have a professional background in their respective fields. Even if you have an idea that celebrates Afghan-Australian relations, send it in! Participation by Women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders is highly encouraged. Entry Types Explained
Visual Art
Visual art must demonstrate a connection between Afghanistan and Australia. Visual Art could be a classic or a contemporary art in the following four categories:
A - Video art (media and performance art, short edited video clips by camera or mobile phones, short documentaries).
B - Photography (photos may be edited accordingly but the heavy use of photograph editing software is discouraged).
C - Painting with different medium (e.g. graphics, watercolour, poster, oil paintings, pop art, abstract expression, or sketches).
D - Native Art (e.g. calligraphy, miniature and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artwork).
Essay
An entrant's essay must demonstrate current and future prospects for bilateral relations between Afghanistan and Australia. They may either be submitted in English or an Afghan local language. In addition, they should be between 2-6 pages in length (approximately 800-2500 words). The essay must be the original work of the writer.
Business Idea
For those who have an innovative business idea for improving practical trade and business ties between Afghanistan and Australia, the entry should not exceed 4 pages.

Instructions on how to enter, prize details and other information contained within the promotional website form part of these terms and conditions. Entry into this competition means that the entrant warrants that he or she meets the entry requirements and accepts these terms and conditions.
Promoter
The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Australia, 4 Beale Crescent Deakin ACT 2600, invites eligible entrants to get creative and participate in the #AusAfghan50 Competition.
Entrants
Entry in this competition is only open to Afghans living in Afghanistan and all over the world, Australian, New Zealand and Fijian residents between 18 to 60 year old. Participation by Women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders is highly encouraged. Employees and their immediate family members of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and/or Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Afghanistan) are not permitted entry.
Time Frame
The competition starts from 19 June 2019 and closes at 11:59 pm AEST on 30 September 2019. Only entries received by this date and time will be valid. Entries must be submitted via this page. All entrants are to upload their visual arts, essays or business ideas following the instructions and read and agree to the terms and conditions. Entrants may choose to withdraw at any stage during the competition by emailing the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Australia with the subject of WITHDRAW.
Original Work and intellectual property
Each visual art work, essay or business idea submission must be the entrant’s original work and must not have been published previously or been obtained from a secondary source. By submitting an eligible entry, an entrant grants the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and its related entities a royalty-free, perpetual licence to use, reproduce, publish or display their submission(s) and any stories on the entrants. This includes commercial purposes and may extend to or involve use by or with one or more third parties.
Winning Criteria
- All entries will be judged and rated on merit within their respected categories.
- Entries must demonstrate a connection between Afghanistan and Australia.
- All entries must be the original work of the artist or interested person entering in this competition.
- Entrants do not necessarily need to have a professional background in their respective fields. Even if you have an idea that celebrates Afghan-Australian relations, send it in!
- In the event a subject/person is included, it is the responsibility of the entrant to obtain permission prior to entry.
- Electronic copies will only be received and should be at 300 DPI and up to 15 MB file size.
- Those with innovative ideas are also encouraged to make a submission, provided they’re willing to develop their ideas in physical form and send them to the embassy in the near future.
- The judge’s decision is final and cannot be contested.
Allocation of prizes
First, second, and third place, will be awarded for best art piece, essay, business idea and or photograph. Award(s) are non-transferable upon allocation.
The total prize pool is $4500.00 AUD and is divided as follows:

Expenses
On entering this competition, to the full extent permitted by the law, all entrants release from, and indemnify the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and associated agencies against, all liability, cost, loss or expense arising out of acceptance of any prize(s) or participation in the competition including (but not limited to) loss of income, personal injury and damage to property and whether direct or consequential, foreseeable, due to some negligent act or omission or otherwise. The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and associated agencies accept no responsibility for any loss, damage, accident, death or injury resulting from the promotion. Any additional costs incurred will be at the expense of the winner.
Illegal conduct
Any attempt to deliberately damage any website or the information on a website, or to otherwise undermine the legitimate operation of this competition, may be a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, whether successful or not, the promoter reserves the right to take whatever action it considers necessary against any person who is party to the said conduct.
Notification of winner
Winners will be announced at 10:00am AEST on 14 October 2019 via the Embassy’s website (www.canberra.mfa.af) plus on the Embassy's Facebook, Twitter and Instagram sites. You will be contacted via the details provided by you on entry, within one (1) week of the announcement. You are required to contact the Embassy to accept your prize within four (4) weeks of notification. In the event that a prize is unclaimed at the end of this period, the prize may be awarded to another winner as determined by the judge and this entrant will be notified and have four (4) weeks to accept the prize.
Consent
If you are identifiable in your entry, by entering the competition you consent to the entry(s) being collected, held and used by the Embassy in accordance with the purposes outlined above. If someone else is identifiable in the entry, you must ensure that the person completes the Consent Form (on reverse) and that this is provided to the Promoter with your competition entry.
Privacy
Personal information submitted by the Entrant will be stored, used and disclosed in accordance with the requirements of The Privacy Act 1988 (Cwlth). More information on the Privacy Act 1988 and the link is available here.
The Embassy will use and publish your entry and name subject to the Terms and Conditions, and for the purposes, outlined above.
Disqualification
Each entry must be in accordance with these Terms and Conditions and each entrant agrees to be bound by them. The Embassy may refuse to award a prize to entrants who fail to comply with these Terms and Conditions.
