Amidst the joyful celebration of Eid al-Fitr in 2023, hosted and convened by the Foreign Minister, Senator the Hon Penny Wong, at the Edith Lyons Alcove in Parliament House. In the company of distinguished attendees including Deputy Secretary Michelle Chan, First Nations Ambassador Justin Mohamed, and First Asssitant Secretary of DFAT Ridwan Jadwat, the event welcomed the esteemed Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, HE Wahidullah Waissi, alongside other OIC member Heads of Missions in Canberra.

Against this backdrop, meaningful discussions unfolded, delving into critical matters shaping Afghanistan's challanging situation. Ambassador Waissi engaged with Foreign Minister Wong, shedding light on the multifaceted challenges that Afghanistan faces. The discourse spanned from the distressing plight of poverty-stricken Afghan citizens to the empowerment of marginalized girls and women confined to their homes. The gathering also explored the escalating specter of extremism and the intricate diplomatic interactions held in Doha, drawing in special envoys for Afghanistan.
